The difference here is that you dont get to drive rally cars, but trucks and dirt karts instead. In Dirt Rally 2, Codemasters may try open-world venues where you can get lost if not care about road directions enough. DiRT 4 Landrush Landrush is similar to Rallycross, since were talking off-road, circuit racing.
On the other hand, games like Mercedes-Benz World Racing(Synetic) prove having different locations with open-world venues greatly increase gameplay time and delay boredom significantly. Old games like Porsche Unleashed(EA), NFS: High Stakes(EA) and Grid(Codemasters) had massive community for years because of having superb singleplayer campaigns. I am thankful for their work (MGI as earlier name) ever since i know them from days of Viper Racing. And importance of singleplayer events -tree system or not- is also being underestimated by many game developers with some exceptions like Monster Games. Few locations can bore the gamers so quickly that even a perfect simulation for cars will not be enough to get good reviews. Having different sceneries is even more important than total number of available vehicles. One thing is certain for rally games you must not diminish or limit track variety. I can not agree/disagree with your assumption because i did not play DiRT1, DiRT2 and DiRT3. I already have the bundle but only 2 is the masterpiece, 4 and Rally are ♥♥♥♥♥♥.ĭIRT 2, 3, Rally, 4, Showdown, GRID 2, GRID AUTOSPORT owner.
I consider those two as one full game for singleplayer rally adventures. DiRT 4 puts you at the wheel of the most iconic rally vehicles ever made as you face the toughest roads on the planet in Rally, Rallycross & Landrush. There is a reason why there exists the DiRT Bundle in store page with a good price point.
